I’m currently…

Listening to the sound of the TV. I recently found the series “Lie to Me” that I loved watching years ago is now on Disney + and I’m rewatching it. I’m so bummed that they only made 3 seasons…it’s such a brilliant show!

Loving the cheese ciabatta from Sosohee, the vegan chocolate cake from And Yu, and the pesto, mozzarella, and tomato sandwich from Bangin’ Kitchen.

Drinking a Coca-Cola. After the busy day of dress rehearsals for Seussical the Musical, I deserve a little pick-me-up.

Thinking about my family. I hope they know how much I love them and how much I’m looking forward to spending time with them this summer!

Wanting to both speed up and slow down time. I want to speed past the next two weeks to get to spring break, but with so much to do and the time falling faster than grains of sand in an hourglass, I want to slow time down so I can get everything done that I need to do before the end of the school year.

Procrastinating so many projects. With recruitment, Covid cases, and the production taking up most of my time lately, lots of other things have been put on hold. I need to get back on track!

Needing a hug from my family, a haircut, the warmer weather to finally come, a good night’s sleep, and a holiday.

Reading Amanda Gorman’s book of poetry about the global pandemic, Call Us What We Carry. I love many of the poems but some are just okay. Next up is my book club book, The Silence of Bones by June Hur, a historical murder mystery set in Korea in the 1800s.

Worrying about all the teachers who have Covid at my school and whether I’ll finish all my projects this year.

Wondering what my summer plans will be. I’ll definitely go home and to Michelle’s wedding in England, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. I need to spend some time planning soon.

Anticipating my upcoming spring break trip to Seoul with friends. Can’t wait to spend time in the big city!

I’m currently…

Listening to the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack and it’s bringing me back to a year ago, when I was in isolation for months on end in Jakarta, unable to leave my housing compound. I would work all day, and in the evenings, when I needed to get the pent-up angst and energy out, I would walk circles around my pond, blasting this soundtrack, tears streaming down my face.

Loving my healthy, happy plants, fresh baked bread, friends who listen when you’ve had a bad day, and writing in the SOL Challenge.

Drinking water. I have not drank enough water today and I need to hydrate to stave off the headache that’s trying to creep in.

Thinking about the next step I should take in developing the curriculum. We have made tremendous progress, and I know what needs to happen, but I haven’t yet decided the order in which to go about it. I need some head space and time to do this big picture thinking.

Wanting to wake up late tomorrow and read my book while sipping on English breakfast tea (sigh, tomorrow’s Friday…I guess I’ll have to wait til Saturday).

Procrastinating so many things…well, I’m not really procrastinating them, it’s just that I have a to do list so full it’s about to burst and I don’t have enough hours in the day to get to all of them in a timely manner.

Needing some rest, a good cry, a hug from my mom and dad, exercise, and a day off to catch up.

Reading an easy read, The Return by Nicholas Sparks. When there’s so much going on in the world that you aren’t sure will work out, there’s something comforting about reading books like this…where you just know it’s going to all turn out alright.

Worrying about whether or not I should go home this summer, vaccinations (when? really not until the fall? which one will they give us?), and the stress that’s been a constant this week.

Wondering which book I will read next…I have so many to choose from in my ‘to read’ stack. I’m leaning toward The Huntress by Kate Quinn. I fell in love with The Alice Network, which I read while I was in quarantine this summer. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it.

Anticipating a little getaway to Seoul during Spring Break in 3 weeks. We have just been given the green light to travel to the mainland for 4 days at the start of the break without the requirement of a Covid test. This is definitely a silver lining!

What are you currently up to?

I’m currently…

Listening to my ‘Hot Country’ playlist on Spotify that I can’t seem to get enough of. I usually only listen to country music when I go home (because, Texas), but the country kick I got into when I was home at Christmas has hung around. My most-played song on the playlist is “You should be sad” by Halsey…which isn’t really country. It’s such a catchy and “girl power-y” song.

Loving the support from the Slice of Life Community. I had literally no idea when I started the SOL Challenge on March 1st that my life would be flipped onto its side the very next day. This community has enveloped me in support and positivity while I slog through one of the most exhausting and uncertain times of my career.

Drinking watered-down iced tea because it’s late and I’m on the couch and I’m too lazy to get up and make a new glass.

Thinking about all the things I need to do this weekend in order to get caught up and try to get ahead for next week, but at the same time I’m thinking about how all I want to do is just bury my head in the sand and take a step back so that I can have some breathing room. Such a tightrope to walk.

Wanting to get away for Spring Break (which starts in just over a week), but knowing I won’t get the opportunity. Sadly and begrudgingly, I cancelled my Spring Break trip to Australia due to fears over travel during the pandemic and strongly encouraged advice from my school that no one travel during the break. Hopefully I don’t go stir crazy being stuck here!

Procrastinating sending some emails. With my focus on my students, my admin responsibilities are less important (to me) at this time. I really should get to those emails. Maybe tomorrow…

Needing sleep, peace of mind, socialization, my family, movement, fresh air, homemade chocolate chip cookies (ok, maybe I don’t need that one, but it sure would be nice!)

Reading some of my past slices to get ideas for what to write about (hence this form slice) because I don’t feel like writing another gloomy post like I did yesterday, but today was another rubbish afternoon and the grumpiness and on-the-verge-of-tears feeling hasn’t passed yet.

Worrying about what everyone else in the world is at this moment- Coronavirus pandemic! In addition to all the worries we all have (that I don’t need to spell out again), I worry about whether I’m worrying too much. For every article that says this is serious and you need to protect yourself, stay away from people, etc., there are articles that say not to worry unless you’re really old or are unhealthy. What should I believe?!? Anyone else feel like this? Or is it just me?

Wondering if I’m meeting my students’ needs during this virtual school experience. Hopefully the reflection assignment for tomorrow will give me some insight and I can make the necessary adjustments next week.

Anticipating my move this summer and my new job! I can’t wait to slice about my new adventure, but I need more time to do it justice, so I’ll write that one this weekend. Just thinking about it makes me grin from ear to ear. 🙂

I’m currently…

Listening to a chill playlist including some of my favorite artists- Dermot Kennedy, Wrabel, and Sleeping at Last. It’s oh-so-soothing and the perfect backdrop for writing.

Loving the new Queer Eye episodes, my dinner of a veggie burger with paratha, and the fact that I’ll be heading to Bangkok to spend time with Callie in just 6 short days.

Drinking sweetened iced tea. Feels like home.

Thinking about how I’m going to pack for my summer adventure in only a carry-on. As a habitual overpacker, I just know I’m going to struggle to fit everything in under 7-10 kgs. I still need to research the baggage weight limits on all my flights.

Wanting to see all the new movies coming out this summer, especially Toy Story 4 and Aladdin.

Procrastinating my inbox clean up, lesson observation feedback emails, and a few other jobs. Weekends aren’t my most productive time.

Needing to sort out everything for my background checks in China, Thailand, and Albania. Ugh…wish I had gotten them when I lived there. Not my smartest move, for sure.

Reading very little this month. My reading life takes a nose dive in March, as writing time fills my free time. I’m currently in the middle of a few books, and I’m looking forward to finishing them up next month.

Worrying about how I’m going to get everything done before the end of the school year, which is a mere two months away.

Wondering if I should start one of the new books I bought this week before I finish the ones I’m currently reading. I am just so excited for my new books!

Anticipating my summer travel plans. Now that I’ve made my plans, I can’t wait to travel to all the places and see all the people I love. I know it’s going to be here before I know it, but 10 weeks seems so far away!

This weekend has been hard for me to decide what to write about. Hoping I can finish out the challenge without having to rely on any more formats. What are you currently doing?

Currently, I’m…

Listening to my This is Us playlist. Don’t they have the best songs on that show?? I could listen to it all the time!

Loving the fact that I’ll be on Spring Break in a week and a half! Linner’s coming to visit and I’m going to some pretty cool places that involve sun and sand. 🙂

Drinking English Breakfast Tea, my go-to morning drink. It has to be Twinings.

Thinking about all the things I need to still book for my Spring Break trip. I’m such a last-minute travel planner.

Wanting to go watch Beauty & the Beast (again) this afternoon. Such a great movie! Brings me back to my childhood. Oh, and the popcorn with M&M’s is a guilty pleasure, too.

Procrastinating lots of stuff…lesson plans, newsletter, and emails I need to return. Ugh…guess I should do this at some point today.

Needing to do my foot exercises today. I’m getting more mobile, and want to continue the progress I’ve been making.

Reading…well, I actually just finished a book last night. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon was pretty good. Now I’m looking for what I’ll read next. Any suggestions?

Worrying about whether or not my wounds will be healed by the time Spring Break rolls around. Currently, the doctor says I can’t get my foot wet. I sure hope they do, because it’d be a shame if I couldn’t get in the pool or the ocean!

Anticipating my new adventure…so much to do to get ready, but looking forward to this new chapter in my life!

What are you currently doing?

Currently… #sol16 10 of 31

After reading lots of slices that use this format, I thought I’d give it a shot!

I’m currently…

Listening to:

chill, techno music playing at The Montrose, my new favorite hangout in Tirana. Hello quesadillas, homemade chips, and guacamole!

the Slice of Life Challenge this year. Even though I have so much going on right now, I don’t feel stressed at all. In fact, I feel energized by the daily practice of reflecting and writing.

fruit tea and water

about what I’m going to pack tonight for my trip to Thessaloniki. A friend of mine and I are leaving tomorrow after work, driving 7 hours to Greece, and staying through Monday. IKEA here we come! (Yes, we planned a trip to another country for the sole reason of going to IKEA. But, while we are there, we will also hit up a Starbucks to drink a Chai Tea Latte and go to a grocery store to buy cheddar cheese, goat cheese, and other foods we can’t get here. I also see tzatziki, baklava, and Greek salads in our future. Oh, and we’ll see something cultural to make ourselves feel better, too.)

more time in the day. Doesn’t everyone want this? Sometimes I just wish I could hit pause so I could get more work done, or slow down and binge-watch my favorite TV series or read a book, but still have time to do everything else I want/need to do.

the PYP resource room inventory, and subsequently the annual order. Why is it that I have tons of energy for work I want to do, but things I need to do, but aren’t that fun, are harder, and I put them off? Sometimes I need a fire under my ass to get stuff done!

someone to do the inventory for me. 😉

lots of emails, fellow slicer’s blog posts, comments on my blog, PYP unit planners, What the Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell, and about to start Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

that I’m forgetting something. With so much on my plate, I sometimes worry that I forgot to do something.

how Shaggers is doing. She went into labor today, but I haven’t had an update in a few hours. Hope she, Jeezy, and baby Shags are doing well. Love them!!!

my trip to Senegal to visit Melissa, T, and baby Reina during Spring Break (only 8 more days til I leave!). I cannot wait to see them!!! And, Senegal is country #30 for me…woohoo, another milestone!
