One of my annual traditions is reflecting on the past year through photos. Here are my past year in photos reflections- 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. While I love telling stories through words, pictures are a great way to tell my story, too.
2020 was a year like no other, as we all know. While most of my previous year in photos include pictures from all the places I traveled that year, 2020 was the year of quarantine, therefore I have fewer places than usual represented in this year’s reflection. I started out the year in Texas, flying back to Jakarta via Dubai on January 2nd. I was able to travel to Borobudur and Lembang in Indonesia before we were quarantined on March 2nd. I went back to Texas in May, where I spent the summer, and then moved to Jeju, South Korea in July. After quarantining in Seoul, I spent the rest of 2020 in Jeju, apart from a couple of quick trips to Seoul. Here are the highlights of my 2020, in chronological order. Which ones are your favorite?

I’m in awe of everyone who travels internationally. I’m working up my courage to make a plan to travel out of the US – just have to decide to go, right?
I love living abroad and traveling to new places. I’m so glad you’re making a place to travel internationally. What are your top three choices?
Since you asked, my favorite is your niece and nephew (I guess) soaking wet. But I love seeing parts of Asia through your lens. And I am struck by the live in these photos of a tough and limited year- some masked and some not- that show you continued to love life and make the most of it!
I also really love this tradition you have, your year in photos.
You’re right..my niece and nephew. That one’s my fave too. Thanks…I think the photos we take do show our perspective on a place. Even though it was a tough year, I have so much to be thankful for!
While you might not have traveled as much as you usually do (or would have liked to) it seems like you had a pretty nice year. Love that you have this tradition as well. Also…too many favorites to choose from.
I realized that I traveled much more than most last year, even though it was so much less than normal. I really love the process of reviewing my camera roll and choosing the photos that best represent my year. Anywhere you’d like to go once we can all travel again?
I keep saying I want to go to Iceland or London.
I want to try Iceland too! London is fab!
I love your tradition of sharing your year in photos! My favorite is the photo of the two children in the splash pad. Pure innocence and joy! Not a trace of the pandemic, which is evident in so many of our photos of 2020.
That’s my favorite too! I got to spend a day this summer with my niece and nephew. Their joy oozes out of them…I miss and love them so much right now! 🙂
Fabulous photos. The masked statue is my favorite.
Thanks! I like that one too…:) I think it’s very clever.
It’s all about perspective. Your photos highlight the relationships, beauty and joy. If someone found the photos in the future, It’s only the masks that might make people question. Or perhaps in the future the masks are so natural for staying healthy that even these photos would look regular. My favourite is the one of your toes – relaxing.
You’re right…definitely perspective. I realized that I didn’t take very many photos while in quarantine/isolation last year. I chose the photos that highlighted the special people in my life. The toes was during quarantine when I needed to get out of the house. I loved my rooftop oasis in Jakarta.
So much joy! But my favorite? The finished puzzle. It says so much about the year 2020.
It sure does! I’ve done so many puzzles in the past year. 🙂
