I had a different plan for today’s Slice of Life. I was going to write about my day full of curriculum planning, but tonight, as I sat down to decompress after work, a memory popped up on my phone that literally made me laugh out loud. Repeatedly. Change of plans!
Every time I go home to visit my family, I always spend a day each with my niece and nephew. On our “date,” they get to choose whatever we do for the day, and I get to spoil them while spending quality time making memories.
A couple of years ago, Logan and I stopped at Freddy’s for lunch, and as we walked in, I couldn’t help but notice that the life-sized cardboard cut-out of the Freddy’s founder had on a similar outfit to Logan.
“Hey Logan, do you know who this is?” I asked.
“No. Do you?”
“Yeah, it’s your grandpa,” I replied, stifling a laugh.
With an utterly confused look on his face, he said, “No it isn’t. That’s not Pops or Papa.”
“Oh, I know, but this is your third grandpa you’ve never met,” I lied, wondering if he was gonna buy it.
“Are you sure?” he questioned.
“Yep, see how you’re both wearing red shirts?” I say with a laugh.
Still unconvinced that this man is his grandpa, but understanding that I’m joking around, he started giggling. I had him pose next to “his grandpa” and couldn’t stop laughing when he put his thumb up just like the cut-out. We laughed about it during lunch, and when we got home, he told everyone about how Aunt Jennifer tricked him at lunch, laughing every time he saw the picture. Logan is such a character, and I hope he never loses his goofy sense of humor!
